about
I first heard this song being sung by Ishbel MacTaggart from Islay, but it also appears in Eilean Fraoch, a book of songs collected in Lewis. It's a charming song, looking forward to the splendid wedding of the child being sung to, and relatively easy for Gaelic beginners to master! In the context of this song, "clann" means children in the sense of family or clan. Historically there were blood ties between Ulster and Clan Donald.
Nuala Kennedy has recorded a version of the song from the Ulster perspective.
lyrics
Bidh Clann Ulaidh, laoigh 's a lurain
Bidh Clann Ulaidh, air do bhanais
Bidh Clann Ulaidh, laoigh 's a lurain
Deanamh an danns' air do bhanais
Bidh Clann a Rìgh, bidh Clann a Rìgh
Bidh Clann a Rìgh, air do bhanais
Bidh Clann a Rìgh, seinnear a phìob
Olar am fìon air do bhanais
Bidh Clann Amhlaidh, nam fir ghreanmhor
Bidh Clann Amhlaidh, air do bhanais

Deanamh an danns' air do bhanais
Bidh Clann a Rìgh, bidh Clann a Rìgh
Bidh Clann a Rìgh, air do bhanais
Bidh Clann a Rìgh, seinnear a phìob
